Brown Paper Packages

So I have a confession to make. I have lots and lots of yarn. More probably then I should, more then I need - if that is even possible. But the fact is, I love yarn, I love shopping for yarn, I love the look of yarn, I love the feel of yarn, I love imaging what I am going make with yarn. I love going to my local yarn store with their floor to ceiling bright colors and bins and bins of different weight yarns, and seeing what new goodies they have.

So with the title of this post being "Brown Paper Packages" you might ask why I am going on about my weakness for yarn. Well when I was cleaning out my house recently I found that I had much to much.... well everything. And decided that I had to get rid of some things. One thing that I did not get rid of was yarn. ( I love yarn.) But I did give away most of my wrapping paper. Easily - and I haven't missed it.

But I did keep my trusty role of brown paper. I love wrapping my packages in brown paper. I especially like using it because it gives me the excuse I need to have another reason for keeping my yarn. Now I can top off my brown paper packages with yarn. :o) See I need all of this yarn.

Today I just wanted to share with you one of the simple and quick patterns I use to wrap up my packages.

To make the flower in the picture above I used worsted weight yarn and a 3.75mm hook.

To make this flower super easy to use for wrapping a present you want to start with a extra long tail. I usually try to start out with two arm lengths of yarn.

Chain 3, join with slip stitch to the first chain made to make a loop.

Round 1: Chain 1, 4 sc in the ch 3 loop we just made, join with slip stitch to the first stitch we made.

Round 2: Chain 10,

Join with slip stitch to the same stitch that the chain 10 is coming out of,

Slip stitch into the next stitch,

[chain 10, join with slip stitch to the same stitch that the chain 10 is coming out of, slip stitch into the next stitch] 3 times,

chain 10, join with slip stitch to the same stitch that the ch 10 is coming out of.

Round 3. Now we are going to be working into each of our chain 3 loops. 1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 5 tr, 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sl st into the slip stitch that is between the chain 10 loops.

1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 5 tr, 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc,
1 sl st into the slip stitch that is between the chain 10 loops

Repeat into the other 4 loops.

At this point you want to cut your yarn. Make sure to give yourself about two arm lengths of yarn, pull the yarn through the last stitch so it is now on the back side and tie the two ends together to secure them.

Now you just want to take your amazing little flower, wrap it around your box a few times with those extra long tails that you gave yourself while making it, and fasten it off on the bottom of the box. Easy Peasy!
